Kick Serve Drill with Swiss/Yoga Ball

Kick serve is one of the hardest serves to learn, since it is a strange feeling to swing up and towards the side fence when you want the to go forward. Use either a chair or a swiss ball. I like to use a swiss ball since it helps me work on my core muscles and while keeping my posture right. Here are a few things you need to be careful of while sitting down while serving:

  • Hold the extreme grip (bevel 1..refer to grip section and tips)
  • Toss the ball backwards, feeling like it is going to drop on your head
  • Kick up when you are serving
  • Do not follow through but stop the swing to the right of you
  • Sit up straight and try not to lose your balance
  • Start with 3 sets of 10 balls and progress to 5 sets of 15
